Pelican UK home page

Introduction
To be successful, a business-to-business Internet site must present information required by the user, quickly and in an easy-to-find format. Users are generally seeking answers to a particular question and need to be directed to the relevant data rapidly. If information is not forthcoming efficiently and effectively, the user will move on to another Internet site.

General Design Concepts
The design will be based around a consistent set of navigation buttons positioned in the left margin of the page. These same basic navigation buttons will appear in the same format on every page to assist visitors to find their way around the site. The design will not use frames technology, as many of the leading search engines will not index pages with this feature. All buttons can include the ‘mouse-over’ effect to aid navigation. The design of the site will be kept flat with a minimal number of layers to negotiate through to find the required information. Images will be compressed to minimize download times. Each page on the Internet site can carry a date at the top indicating the last time the information was updated. This date gives confidence to the site visitor that the information is still current. Pelican UK will ensure the pages are correctly coded for indexing by the Search Engines.

Main Sections and Navigation
1. Home Page. The opening page showing the company identity, logo and short statement introducing the company and its services. There can be a photograph montage of the products available and mouse-over will describe the products and services, and provide a hyper-link to the relevant sections on the site.
2.
Products and Services. There will be a number of Products and Services pages. The links to these sections will appear on all pages in the LH margin, top or bottom. Each product page will consist of images and introductory text and a link to the full details and specifications.
3. The Company. A page detailing the Company's profile and history with the objective of establishing it as a supplier of substance. When this page is opened there may be extended navigation for sub-sections including information on the company history, FAQ, How to Find Us, and outside links to associated sites like parent and group companies.
4. Site Index. Alphabetical listings of all pages with the page names as hyper-links to the page concerned.
5. Contact Us. The Feedback form will include boxes for name, company and address etc., check boxes for area of interest and a free-form text box for general comments.

Keywords
The keywords are the main terms, trade names and other terminology that might be used by potential clients looking for the products and services offered by the company.
These keywords are built in to the Meta tags, descriptions and page titles to improve the prospects of being found by the Internet Search Engines and therefore improve the number of people who visit the site. It is important to define these keywords at the design stage of the site. Pelican UK will assist you in defining these keywords.

Options
The Internet site will be planned and managed so that the following options can be added at a later stage of development.
1. Additional Sections. As the project builds, there may be a requirement for new sections to cover additional areas of interest. Provision will be included to add these to the main site navigation.
2. Shopping Cart. This can be done at a later date but the downside is that it has to be a new site (specification and pricing to be agreed).
4. CallBack. The addition of a telephone Callback option to the site is increasingly required to
improve customer contact.
